We’ve got some great Fall activities scheduled! Check ‘em out – we hope you can make it!

Farm Trip – Sunday, September 23

We are looking forward to our farm trip this Sunday, September 23. We are planning to leave at 7:45 am and we will meet in front of St. Michael’s church on 4th Avenue between 42nd and 43rd Street.

Please come prepared to do some work in the fields (clothes and shoes that can get some dirt on them!) and please bring a dish to share for a community lunch afterwards.

Please let us know if you are still planning on coming so that we can be sure to have proper transportation.

Smackdown – Monday, September 24

Now that Labor Day has passed, it is time to gear up for…the Great CSA Smackdown! The Sunset Park CSA has decided to offer our members with culinary talents the chance to compete in a city-wide cooking competition sponsored by Just Food, the Great CSA Smackdown! Individual CSA’s will be holding first round events before September 30 and the winners of each event will compete against each other in the final round.

If you have dreamed of having your Top Chef moment, now is the time. More details will be coming soon, but here is what we know now:

When: Monday, September 24, 6pm-9pm
Where: Rice and Dreams, an awesome People’s Kitchen Project in Sunset Park will be allowing us to use their space at San Jacobi Church, 5406 4th Avenue
Who: You can be a team of 1 or 2 people, and at least one team member needs to be a Sunset Park CSA member
How it works: Contestants will provided with ingredients from our CSA Share, staple ingredients, and a heating surface. More details will be sent to those who consider participation, but contestants will be able to bring up to 3 flavor enhancers and up to 3 pieces of kitchen equipment. There will be 15 minutes of prep time and 30 minutes of cooking time. Dishes will be tasted and scored on Taste, Presentation, Creativity, and CSA Share Use by a panel of 3 judges. The winner will move on to the Final Round Competition!

If you are interested in competing, please email us at sunsetparkcsa@gmail.com and we can provide you with more information. Even if you do not want to compete, we invite you to come give your good cheer to the competing teams. We will be able to accept teams in the order received.
